How to Play Waffle: Rules, Swaps & Star Rating Strategies
Welcome to PuzzleVerse’s guide to Waffle, the grid-based word swap puzzle that combines anagrams, spatial deduction, and letter economy.
Waffle presents you with a waffle-shaped cross-grid containing 21 letter tiles. Unlike Wordle where you type new letters, in Waffle all the correct letters are already on the board! Your challenge is to rearrange them into six valid five-letter horizontal and vertical words by swapping letter positions in 15 moves or fewer.
Tile Color Rules in Waffle
- 🟩 Green Tile: The letter is in its correct word and exact right location. Green tiles are locked and cannot be swapped.
- 🟨 Yellow Tile: The letter belongs in that specific row or column, but in a different position. If a yellow tile is at an intersection, it belongs in either that horizontal word or vertical word.
- ⬛ Gray / Neutral Tile: The letter does not belong in that specific row or column. It must be swapped to a completely different part of the grid.
Pro Tips to Earn 5-Star Solutions
- Solve the Intersections First: The four corner intersections connect horizontal and vertical words. Getting these right locks two words at once.
- Perform Direct Swaps: Whenever possible, swap two letters that each belong in the other’s position. A mutual swap fixes two tiles in a single move.
- Count Remaining Moves: Every move left over when you finish adds to your star rating (up to 5 stars).
