The Golden Rules of Sudoku

A standard Sudoku puzzle consists of a 9×9 grid subdivided into nine 3×3 regions ("blocks" or "boxes"). The rules are elegantly simple:

Expert Strategies to Master Any Sudoku Grid

  1. Single Candidate Technique (Naked Singles): Look for an empty cell that only has one possible valid number remaining after checking its row, column, and 3×3 box.
  2. Hidden Singles: Check if a specific digit (for example, the number 7) can only fit into one possible cell within a particular row or box. Even if that cell has other candidate notes, the 7 must go there.
  3. Cross-Hatching: Scan horizontal and vertical rows for a specific number across two adjacent 3×3 boxes. The third box must contain that number in the remaining row or column.
  4. Use Pencil Notes (Draft Mode): When solving Medium and Hard puzzles, use our Pencil toggle to jot down candidates in cells with 2 or 3 possibilities. This makes pairs and triplets immediately visible.
